Covering 30 tracks over 2 discs, the release of 'New Wave: Gold' by Universal/Hip-O does a fair job of covering a random selection of the new wave era. This compilation not only includes material under the Universal divisions but also branches out and licenses music /5(6).

If New Wave lacks definitive bands, it’s probably because the label was used as a catchall for all types of stuff. At first, it was a way to make punk more palatable for mainstream audiences.

Although this is only one disc of another collection, these songs represent an era that is hard to define. Most people think of new wave as a never ending list of one hit wonders and strong electronica, and they may or may not be right depending on their point of view - I think most bands had more than one or two songs in their arsenal, but most people don't remember the 'other' songs/5(5).

Quickly brought back memories of the late 70s/early 80s for me when real music ruled the charts. Great selection overall with only one anomaly, Roxy Music - Dance Away - a perfect example of what is NOT a new wave track, but hey ho, compilations usually have a handful of oddities so having only one is OK/5(21).

HARMONY IN MY HEAD is another of Cherry Red’s celebrations of a bygone era – this time, the boom in Power Pop and New Wave which followed the Punk explosion in This triple-CD box set spins off the success of the 4-CD compilation Action Time Vision .
